I ran for town board here in Pahrump. I wanted to see if I could win and if I won if I could actually make a difference.
It seems that I made a difference without winning a thing. I guess because I made such a stink about the incorporation and detention center that someone(s) might actually do something to prevent both.
Don Russ actually suggested hiring a study group from Berkeley California to develope an opinion on incorporation. My thoughts on that is that we don't need to pay anyone for a study group. Pahrump has voted and spoken. They weren't even paid to study the issue. They knew what they wanted and voted that way when it came up...not once or twice but three times!
As for the detention center...apparently we may get it whether we like it or not. There was a town ordinance on the books here that state no prison facility shall be built within 9 miles of any dwelling. The ordinance disappeared along with the website and the detention center will be (if it succeeds in being built) less than 8 miles from the local middle school.
Talk about irony. I have a question for those people in favor of the detention center because apparently it's only some town board members and commissioners...is a 25 dollar an hour job worth the life of your child?
